In 1988, an international exhibition opened in Venice, Italy. "The Phoenicians", was curated by Italian archaeologist, Sabatino Moscati. In an article by "The Smithsonian" (magazine), August, 1988, Moscati points out the exquisite rightness of Venice to host it (the exhibition); in glass manufacture, "the Phoenicians were the precursors of the Venetians".
 

Four different Phoenician head styles were shown, purported to have been found in a tomb in the ancient city of Carthage. The lustrous glass necklace pendants are believed to represent a deity dating to about 400 BC.

A local Murano glass artist of our acquaintance, took a commission from a Roman museum to recreate the heads. We have carried them since 1988, and for the first time, offer them on our website, either as a necklace or as loose pendants.

The Large Phoenician Head Pendants are completely handmade, and therefore, no two are exactly alike, and will vary in size from approximately 30 to 40 mm (1-1/4 to 1-5/8 inches) wide and 50 to 60 mm (2 to 2-3/8 inches) long.

Medium Size Pendants, "Phoenician Heads". Since each pendant is completely handmade by the Italian craftsman, the sizes of the medium pendants vary from 26 to 32 mm (1-1/8 to 1-5/16 inch) wide and from 42 to 47 mm (1-3/4 to 1-15/16 inch) long.

Small Phoenician Head Pendants, handmade with Murano glass. Since they are completely handmade by a Murano glass artisan, no two are exactly alike. Small pendants range in size from 22 to 25 mm (15/16 to 1-1/16 inch) wide and 33 to 38 mm (1-3/8 to 1-9/16 inch) long.

Cobalt Blue, Phoenician Head Necklace. This necklace has 11 small cobalt blue "lentils", small 12 mm disc shaped Venetian beads, with a large Phoenician Head pendant approximately 36 mm (1-1/2 inch) wide x 52 mm (2-1/8 inch) long. The pendant is worked into the necklace design, so that it is secure and cannot be removed. Necklace is accented with cobalt blue, faceted, small round and medium teardrop crystals; small gold "stardust" beads; is 17 inches, and can be adjusted up to 20 inches with the adjustable 3 inch gold chain and clasp.

Phoenician Head Turquoise Necklace. The one large, Murano glass Phoenician head pendant is approximately 55 mm long and 35 mm wide and is attached securely within the necklace design. Necklace has four 12 mm round gold beads, four 12 mm turquoise Murano glass cubes with white glass cores; is accented with gold bead caps, and black faceted round crystals. The two inch gold chain makes the necklace length adjustable from 19 to 21 inches.
