MILLEFIORI BEADS, VENETIAN AND MURANO GLASS JEWELRY

The most famous Venetian beads are the Millefiori, which translated
from Italian is "thousand flowers". Each bead is handmade under
the flame, using world famous Murano glass canes or rods.

The 2 Venetian Bead necklaces below are our own, original design; designed by Alexander-Lee. The Millefiori beads are accented with 24 Karat Gold foil beads; adding a little sparkle to a standard Venetian design.


N-20-a. Millefiori Graduated Round and 24 Kt. Gold Foil Necklace. This beautiful necklace contains a large 18mm baroque round, "melon" center bead, 4 large gold foil "twists", and 2 smaller baroque rounds. The Millefiori beads are graduated, starting with large 16mm round beads at the center. Decorative gold bead caps, and hand knotting complete this 24 inch, (61cm), necklace $55.00		N-20-b. Round, 8mm Millefiori, Venetian bead necklace, accented with 10mm "paint drip" beads in 24kt gold foil and solid black glass beads. Just enough gold to provide that extra impact! "Fine" Millefiori

The following necklaces are examples of the finest millefiori beads, referred to as "fine" millefiori. The millefiori bead is made by first melting, or lampworking, Murano glass onto the copper wire. Once the initial bead is formed, the artisan holds the bead in the flame and with tweezers, picks up small millefiori slices (also called murrinas), previously cut from millefiori canes, and places them directly on the heated center bead, covering the bead without leaving any space between each murrina. The Murano artisan then smooths and polishes the bead, obtaining the finest and highest quality beads that are envied by other bead makers. The complete making of these perfectly shiny beads is a secret, like many others of the workshops on the Murano island, and it is jealously guarded in the family tradition.

Millefiori Earrings: Each Murano glass bead is handmade in Italy; and therefore, no two beads are exactly alike. The pairs of millefiori earrings are intended to show a variety of colors, and not to perfectly match.
Most millefiori earrings are available in your choice of gold filled or sterling silver wires. Gold or silver colored clips are also available on many of the earrings.
